Fall Haircolor Forecast

COLOR

New York, August 1995. This fall, New York salon owner Robert Craig is finding his inspiration from the natural looks of the 60's and 70's. " With fall fashions leaning towards the sixties, hair color will follow suit,"says Craig. " Sheen, luster, shine, gloss and polish are the keywords for this fall's haircolor."

Retro hair meets 90's science. From deep rich browns to soft golden blondes, this fall's color won't look like the obviously colored hair of this past season. "Today's professional and consumer products have improved immensely, even allowing the option of try-on color," reports Craig. "Super models are changing their hair color almost as fast as they change their clothes and clients want to share that flexibility as well." Although Craig doesn't recommend major color changes be done often, he feels subtle tonal changes can be safely achieved. "This fall I'll be doing more color glosses and tri-glazes in shades that modify hair's natural tones."

Craig believes his clients' hair should feel as beautiful as it looks and only utilizes coloring techniques and products that will maintain or improve hair texture. Craig has put the term "single process" to rest. He always adds subtle mini-lights or a conditioning color gloss to every client's hair. Craigs philosophy? "You should get compliments on the color of your hair, not your hair color."

"Pre and post treatments are a must for a lustrous end result," says Craig. "Removing product buildup, chlorine and mineral deposits prior to color application and conditioning during or after, results in a high sheen and natural feel that until recently couldn't be achieved."

To maintain this result Craig insists his clients use his signature haircare line that is based on water type rather than hair type. It starts with the
No More Bad Hair Days Kit that allows clients to easily test their water and select the shampoo that will render the best end result. "Water is a culprit that we have discovered causes real hair problems," says Craig, "especially with chemically treated hair."

Whether you're wearing this fall's mod patent leather or a simple lamé, your hair color should have natural looking sheen, luster, shine, gloss and polish.
