Brunettes abound again

Fall/Winter 1997. New York salon owner/colorist Karin Hiebert is predicting fall of 1997 to be the season of the geometric. Haircutting this fall is leaning more towards very angular and geometric shapes. Fall fashions for women are going back into boxy shapes and square shoulders. Not the huge shoulder pads of the past, but shoulders creating an angular look to the upper body. Straight, hanging bobbs with bangs of a completely different color for those daring to be bold. Blunt, almost choppy cuts, with no softness or roundness to the lines. Bangs are of varying lenghths, cut at angles. This look works well with the new fall fashions.

Emphasis on hair color for these geometric shapes is solid color, or for the adventurous, blocks of color. "Black bobbs with bold red bangs for example", says Karin, "or highlights that are finely woven and for the daring should be a shocking color to offset the solid color". Chunks are out for now. Try a mix of chocolate brown with a bold blonde bang. Brunettes are still the color of choice this season and can sport some of the most dramatic looks for fall if they are willing. "Of course, all these severe trends can be modified to suit the individual while remaining current", says Karin.
