Spring Haircolor Forecast
The Long and Short of it.
New York, For Spring 1996 release.
New York colorist/salon owner, Robert Craig, is predicting a haircolor blitz. The new long and short haircuts that graced the fashion runway, at the recent Spring shows, require color to carry them off.
"Layers are making a comeback," says Craig, "a retro 70's look but softer, making the transition from last falls retro 60's cuts a natural." "However, layering can make hair appear dry and dull due to the lack of light reflection. That's where color comes into play - by adding shine, dimension and bringing the style to life."
Tri-color glazes and mini-lights are the two most popular services in Craig's New York salon. The tri-color glaze, as shown in the model above, was achieved by alternating three demi-permanent colors and applied by brush throughout the head. Darker shades underneath and where depth is required and brighter shades where height and tonal softness are wanted. It ads incredible shine and dimension to the cut. Robert Craig's Conditioning Mousse puts a finishing touch on the style. In addition to holding the curls without stiffness, it conditions otherwise frizzy hair.
Minilights, 6 to 12 well placed, highlights, are all that are needed for longer, straight hair. The key to these lights are in their placement. That is where an artist's talent and skill prevail. "Some of my proudest work has been placing the fewest foils for the most dramic effect," says Craig. "This method can't take a brunette blonde but it ads the most beautiful splash of color to the hair that I've been able to achieve."
